OpenStreetMap

Overview

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free, community‑driven global map. In Maptaskr Power Maps it can be added as a lightweight public base map provider. It does not supply geocoding, address search, or region search within Maptaskr—those capabilities remain unavailable when only OSM is active.

What You Get

  • Publicly available base map tiles
  • Rapid visual context for geographic features
  • Zero credential management (no keys or subscription required)

What You Don't Get

  • ❌ Address Search
  • ❌ Forward / Reverse Geocoding
  • ❌ Region (boundary) Search
  • ❌ Enterprise SLAs or dedicated throughput

If you require any of the above, pair OSM with another provider (Maptaskr default, ArcGIS, or Azure Maps) and activate the one that supplies the needed function when performing searches.

Installation / Activation

  1. Open Provider Manager.
  2. Click Install (if not already added). No configuration dialog appears—there are no keys to enter.
  3. Set it active when you want a simple base map without consuming external provider quotas.

Use Cases

Choose OpenStreetMap when you:

  • Need a cost‑neutral, attribution‑friendly basemap.
  • Are building internal prototypes or low‑volume dashboards.
  • Want to reduce usage on commercial provider quotas for sessions that don't require search.

Attribution & Licensing

OpenStreetMap data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and licensed under the ODbL. Maptaskr automatically renders required attribution in the map footer—do not remove or obscure it.

Performance Considerations

OSM is a shared public resource. Heavy or automated scraping is discouraged. For high volume, SLA‑bound scenarios consider sticking with the default Maptaskr provider or a commercial provider.

Combining with Other Providers

You can install multiple providers. Switching to Maptaskr, ArcGIS, or Azure Maps immediately re‑enables geocoding and search without losing any configuration. Simply toggle the provider in your configuration profiles as needed.
