Offline Support

Offline Support enables map layers to function when users have limited or no internet connectivity. This feature allows you to define geographic regions for offline data caching and configure how the layer behaves when offline.

Configuring Offline Regions

Adding Regions

To set up offline support for a layer:

  1. Navigate to the Offline Support tab for your layer

  2. Click Add Region to create a new offline region

  3. Configure the region settings:

SettingDescription
Region NameEnter a descriptive name for the offline region
Geographic AreaUse the map interface to draw or define the area that will be available offline
Draw ExtentClick this button to draw the boundary of the offline region on the map

Region Configuration

For each offline region, configure the following settings:

Data Refresh Settings

  • Refresh interval (minutes): Set how often the offline data should be updated when online (enter 0 to disable automatic refresh)

Zoom Level Configuration

  • Offline Zoom Level: Use the slider to set the maximum zoom level available when offline (affects data detail and storage size)

Offline Data Estimation

The system provides estimates for your offline configuration:

  • Estimated number of tiles: Shows how many map tiles will be cached
  • Estimated offline size: Displays the approximate storage space required

Data Ownership Confirmation

Before enabling offline support, you must acknowledge:

  • Data Ownership Agreement: "I accept that this will enable a background service to query and take offline the layer as stipulated above, that I own the data, and that it will consume an estimated size of ?. Note that estimated size related to the offline data is not guaranteed to be accurate and could be different when the flow refreshes offline data periodically (if configured)."

Finalizing Offline Setup

  1. Review all configuration settings

  2. Check the data ownership agreement checkbox

  3. Click Take offline to begin the offline data preparation process

Important Considerations

Data Ownership

Only enable offline support for layers where you own the data or have appropriate licensing rights. Ensure you comply with all data usage agreements.

Storage and Performance
  • Larger geographic areas and higher zoom levels require more storage space
  • Estimated sizes are approximations and actual storage may vary
  • Consider the refresh interval based on how frequently your data changes
  • Users' devices need sufficient storage space for the offline data
Best Practices
  • Start with smaller regions to test offline functionality
  • Choose appropriate zoom levels based on user needs
  • Set reasonable refresh intervals to balance data freshness with network usage
  • Monitor actual storage usage after deployment
