Map Styles

The Map Styles tab allows you to configure the visual appearance of various map elements to match your organization's branding, improve clarity, or highlight important data. Customizing these styles helps users quickly interpret map data and ensures a consistent look and feel across your application.

Map Elements You Can Style

  • Address Pin Styles: Control the appearance of pins that mark specific addresses at a record level. For example, you might use a red pin for customer addresses.
  • Highlight Styles: Define how selected features are visually emphasized. For instance, you can use a bold outline or a bright color to make selected regions stand out.
  • Search Result Style: Adjust the fill and border of searched polygons or areas, such as sales territories or service zones. You can also style the address pin to show the location or address for search results.
  • Measurement Styles: Set the look of measurement lines, circles, or areas drawn on the map (e.g., distance or area tools). Choose colors and line types that are easy to distinguish from other map features.
  • Map Filter Styles: Customise how filtered or hidden features appear, such as dimming or greying out non-matching items.
  • Default Measurement Units: Select the units (e.g., metres, kilometres, miles) used for distance and area measurements on the map.

Customizable Properties

For each element, you can adjust:

  • Point Color: The color of pins or points.
  • Stroke Color: The color of outlines or borders.
  • Fill Color: The interior color of areas or polygons.
  • Stroke Type: Solid, dashed, or dotted lines.
  • Stroke Width: The thickness of outlines or borders.

Changing these properties can help differentiate between types of data, improve accessibility, or align with your brand guidelines. For example, increasing stroke width can make boundaries more visible, while using high-contrast colors improves readability for all users.

Tips for Customizing Map Styles

  1. Start with Presets: If available, use built-in presets as a starting point, then tweak individual properties as needed.
  2. Test for Accessibility: Ensure sufficient color contrast for users with visual impairments. Avoid using color alone to convey meaning.
  3. Use Consistent Colors: Apply the same color scheme across similar map elements for a cohesive look.
  4. Preview on Different Backgrounds: Check how your styles appear on both light and dark map backgrounds.
